I can't believe it!

The universe has tilted.

(I'm not being sarcastic, I remember having the same feeling.)

Yep, it's familiar.

Then when you actually have your baby in your house you'll think "HO-LY CRAP. This is a baby. In my house. They let me take it home from the hospital. What's WRONG with them?!"

Reality set in for me when the baby was 2 weeks old and I watched my mother back out of my driveway and head home. She lived 100 miles away. I remember turning to my husband with tears in my eyes and saying, "Oh ****. I know I'm gonna kill him."

I was a few months short of 40 years old and had never even changed a diaper until I brought him home. Totally clueless.

I remember my baby being less than a few weeks ago - she began having those crying spells every day in the late afternoon - where they cry and cry for no reason and nothing seems to comfort them. I called the doctor's office and the nurse said it could be that she has gas - did you try ABC? Of course I had - It could be that she is uncomfortable, it could be blah blah - it could her personality, etc. So I said, but this isn't like her! Then it dawned on me - nothing is like her yet she is only 3 freakin weeks old. The nurse must have gotten a chuckle over that first parent panic attack.

And I also did not change a diaper in about 25 years - I was just shy of my 35th birthday and even my mom questioned whether I would be able to - my husband they trusted over me in the care of the baby! My own parents - well I did change my friends toddlers pullup once - but I manage to screw that up when I found out later I put it on backwards.

The reassuring part of this is that we all felt clueless, yet we all figured it out.

Except for Chai.

And life will never be the same again. Amen. Very Happy

If I ever figure out how to post a picture, I'll show you the yellow rubber ducky I insist on giving you as part of your shower gift. For now, you'll have to envision it in your mind's eye.

Today's appointment went well. I am on to my third trimester! Appointments every 2 weeks now.

That's freaky because it means I am getting closer!!

Baby is estimated at 3-3 1/2 pounds, which is great! I think that she's a little bigger than expected (most fetus at 28 weeks are 2-2 1/2 pounds) but that could easily even out in the next 12 weeks...Doc is sure that I will have a "normal sized" baby (6-8lbs) and not some giant creation. And he could be wrong about her weight. It's all based on my belly size.

I've gained a total of 20, which sucks. The average weight gain is 17-24lbs so I am well within the norm.

I had my glucose test today...hopefully all will be well on that front.

Shower this weekend...the weather looks great and I am excited!

I just need to get used to the fact that for real, I am having a baby.

Mine were both premies, so my first was born about this time (29 weeks) in my pregnancy. They kept asking me what I was going to name her. I kept saying "I don't know. I have 11 weeks to decide, don't I?"

She was in the hospital for 6 weeks. I remember walking out of the hospital with her, strapping her into the car and thinking "Oh, my gosh!!! I have a baby!" as I pulled away from the curb.

For the first couple of weeks I kept going in to her room while she was sleeping to make sure it was real. I was scared to death that I would forget that I had a baby and just walk out the door to go to the store like I used to be able to do.

I'd think things like, "I'll vacuum when she goes down for her nap." (Duh!)

Fun times ahead, Bella.

I promise. Very Happy

Ha they can rarely guess the weight - I gained the lower end I think 15 pounds with my first and she weight 1 oz shy of 8 pounds. The doctor's comment - I would have never guessed she would have been that big.

The second baby I gained 20 and she was 8 pounds 6 oz. I have good sized babies for being such a small person. You just never know.
