What to ask an eye doctor

Hey, for those who wear contacts: what kind do you use? My friend is going to the eye doctor tomorrow but since I have good vision I don't know what to advise her.

The only brand I'm even remotely familiar with is Purevision, since I've seen commercials for them and a rebate for a free trial pair. But I think you actually have to go to your eye doctor for it - you can't just buy them yourself, right?

the eye doctor will recommend what brand she should wear.

contact lenses are by prescription, just like eyeglasses.

I wear contact lenses on a regular basis and know that there are websites
that will deliver them to your door if you already know how your vision is.
I wouldn't recommend it though, because you should go to a check-up every
6 months to see if there is any problem. Worst case scenario you could go
blind if something is left untreated.

But if being blind is a-ok with your friend
the websites are much cheaper. Smile

Yea, I recommended a few sites that my friend can order from - we'll see how that works out.

As far as the Purevision rebate goes, she said you need to get an eye exam, but once you do that, you get a rebate for a free pair, assuming that is the brand the doctor recommends.

I didn't know there was so many steps to getting contact lenses - at least she might end up with a free pair.

I hope the two of you didn't think you could just go online and order contacts.

Obviously she needs a doctors orders, or how would she know what to get? Rolling Eyes

Plus, her eyes will also be examined for glacoma, and other problems.

Haven't either one of you ever had your eyes examined before?

The doctor knows what he/she is doing.

They won't allow an order without a script. Chai is right....the doctor will tell you what brand you will wear.

No, you guys are absolutely right - the doctor knows what he's doing. She had her exam on Friday, I still need to ask her what the doc said. She asked about Purevision lens, but just because you request one thing doesn't mean the doc will say it is the best fit for you. Thanks for the advice!
