My query is this:

Is it correct to report a sentence with the verb "to be" not respecting the structure S+V ?, as in:

I want to know what is the American flag like.
OR
Shes´s wondering why are the books so badly torn.

Both incorrect....should be...

I want to know what the American flag is like.

Shes´s wondering why the books are so badly torn.
