Each year, an estimated 300,000 U.S. deaths are linked to obesity, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Obesity is defined as 20 percent more than a person's ideal weight or a body mass index of 30 or more.
Death and disease caused by obesity or excess weight is gaining ground on the more than 400,000 U.S. deaths a year attributed to cigarette smoking, the CDC has said. Obesity is the second largest preventable cause of death in the United States.
Wider ones, anyhow. Might make for an interesting feature story in a newspaper or magazine. Think of the implications--cemetaries would run out of room sooner!

If the coffin/casket industry is forced to follow the precedent set by the airlines, they will not be able to charge more for outsized burial containers.
I've already ordered a double-wide. (Either that, or an egg-cremation. With fries)
What does America need more, larger coffins or smaller portions?

By the way...did you ever notice how many lawyers are fat?
What the American people need is a return to sound nutritional education in the schools via home economics and health classes.
Americans have a longer life expectancy today than ever.
Americans are more obese than ever.
Many third-world countries people are very thin but have short life expectancy.
Q.E.D. Obesity must be healthy.
(tongue-in-cheek)
Say, does anyone remember when the Health Hustle was mandatory in grade schools, or is that just a local thing here in Canada and/or Toronto?
I haven't heard of it. What is it?
Just after morning announcements, they would play a jumpy tune, usually that 'Popcorn' song, and the kids would do a little exercise routine together, led by the teacher. I think they canned it a while ago.
We had mandatory fitness breaks at work in the 80's. The boom-boxes came out around the facility and everyone HAD to get up and stretch. If they said they had a medical excuse, they were sent to the company doctor for a look-see.

Nay, just cut off the excesses and throw it on top
