I just posted this to Vivien's thread, in response to Misti being tempted by a critter at a pet shop. Will post it here as well. Poor Ginger cat's situation is really starting to worry me!:

A word of advice: Stay away from pet shops!!!!! I made the same mistake as you, Misti. Visited a pet shop on one of my regular morning walks a few weeks ago .... and there I saw a delightful little group of playful tabbies, of all colours.
Here's the problem: I kept dropping in to say hello & noticed that the ginger tabby (getting bigger quite quickly) had not been bought, but most of the others had. Last week I dropped in again (after vowing not to, because I was starting to feel very sad & responsible for poor Ginger) & there he was again! Still homeless. Now I'm worried about him! Why doesn't someone give him a home? And I certainly can't afford too, right now .... I have my hands (& purse strings!) tied looking after Flatty. But I feel so sorry for poor Ginger! What happens to kittens who turn into cats If no one wants them? I wish I'd never set foot into that place!

Mikey update: He's got a crush on the student I tutor. She arrives, and he drapes himself across the table we work at. (He takes up most of the table.) He faces my student; his back is to me. I'm not offended. As long as he's not biting anybody, namely me, I'm happy.

A very interesting development, Roberta. What does this student have that you don't? Laughing

Miranda and Patty story: I came home from work to find Patty in the cupboard that houses the cat food. She was knocking all the cans on the floor. Miranda was on the floor trying to open them. Glad they were the old need-a-can-opener kind. She might have been able to figure out the new flip-top kind.

Laughing Very funny, Roberta!

Floozies! Oh my! All my female Siamese have been shocking - except my first Miranda, who loved me with a dark passion, and hated any man I liked. I will tell the tale of Miranda I and Peter one day.

Oh tell us, Deb, tell us! I have a feeling this will be good! Very Happy

I was at a birthday party yesterday. We talked about sharing the bed with a partner etc. I said that it's good that my husband comes home so late because I usually go to sleep with both cats in the bed with me. One of the guests looked at me absolutely disgusted. 'Cats in bed! That's terrible! But they are not allowed to be on the table, are they?' 'No, not while we are eating...' Well, she then told me that she doesn't like cats... Guess what - I don't really care and I love cats!

That was a test, urs. She just failed! Laughing

...I have 3 cats-Whisper, Nugget and Tabby. Whisper is my oldest, he's a silver and grey tabby with amber eyes. Nugget is the middle child and the only girl- she's an unusual calico- more striped than spotted with a bright orange diamond in the middle of her forehead. Tabby is an orange and white tuxedo with tabbie stripes, his face is white except his nose...looks like he dunked his snout in orange paint.
... I love them all, though, especially when I go to put on my shoes and find thier favorite toys stuffed inside as a gift Very Happy

Oh Aldistar! A house full of critters! How lovely for you! I well remeber living in the same way & it was delightful. Lucky you & welcome to the Cat Room! Very Happy Here's a big hug to Whisper, Nugget & Tabby! Very Happy

My theory is that my student is one of the few people who's met Mikey and didn't instantly remark on his size. Her first comments were about his beautiful face. I had no idea he was so vain. Hey, do I hear a Carly Simon song in the background? You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you. Okay, I'll stop.

Hey, Deb, C'mon. Dish.

Aldistar, Didn't we meet on the Pet Name for Pets thread? I second Olga's welcome to you here.

So she appealed to his vanity, hmmm? And how is she responding to his undivided attention? I hope she's playing hard to get! This could get interesting. Laughing

Yes, the pet nicknames, that was me. Thank you for the warm welcome! Smile I would have responded earlier but Nugget is sleeping on my mouse...go figure... and I didn't have the heart o move her. She really is spoiled rotten.

Well, Mikey is getting a tad too rotund, so I'm putting him back on his diet. So far, no blood has been shed--namely mine. Let's see how long this will last. My last attempt at putting Mikey on a diet ended disastrously. I know I said after that experience that he could eat until he exploded. But I've had time to calm down, and the wounds have healed. I really don't want to be cleaning Mikey off the walls and ceiling.

Olga, is the orange cat still in the pet shop?

Yes, it is, Roberta .... I'm trying not to visit. Sad
BUT another little orange tabby has been sort of hanging around my neighbourhood during the past 2 days. Flatty meowed at him from the side fence for 30 minutes tonight ... I don't know whether this is good or bad .....

Mikey on a diet, again! Shocked Quick, Roberta, cover yourself from head to foot! Something quilted! GOOD LUCK, you're a brave girl!

I'd love to, Vivien .... The problem is this (call me stoooopid! Confused ) I can't send it to your A2K mailbox via Outlook(where it goes to "send by email") ... Have tried tried figuring out a solution a number of times, but duhhhhhhhhhhhh ... Rolling Eyes This is tragic because I'm keeping Flatty's ravishing image from the world. Sad
