You must be very young if you think Noam Chomsky needs to be introduced. I've been listening to Mr. Chomsky on 'Democracy Now' and various NPR shows, and occassionally TV for almost 40 years. McG and I are on opposite ends of the political rainbow, but I agree that he is not being censored.

I'm willing to bet BuddingAnarchist is going to be a freshmen college student. Yeah you will hear a lot about good ol' Noam in several of your classes.

What are you smoking? When was the last time Chomsky was on CNN, Lehrer? Maybe the NY Times will let him do an op-ed once every two years. Of course he is being censored, as are most of the progressive left. Read Manufacturing Consent and learn something.

I am not a college student. Don't have the beer bongs or pierced nipples. I am a 42 year old old fart.

Jello Biafra is cool as well.

Not being interesting and being censored are 2 different things.

Chomsky is an extremeist and gets treated as such. No one cares about the extremists, all they do is provoke people.

Prospect magazine named him the leading intellectual in the world. He is not an extremist, that is the usual right wing propaganda line. This is the guy who recently spoke at West Point, by the way.

America is a country under seige by propaganda and lies, what else do you expect but dull comments like these.

Ann Coulter must be mainstream, right?

Coulter? Main Stream? Nope. Just another extremist for the other side.

Here's a link to the leading left website on the web. A huge archive of columns about almost everything, and by people who are rarely represented by the mainstream culture. Allied with Z magazine.

Chomsky's garbage is regulated by the laws of supply and demand, not censorship. I seriously doubt you are introducing him to anyone on this site.

Occum bill, that was a very moronic comment from someone who obviously knows nothing about what he speaks. Chomsky has a waiting list of about two years for interviews, because so many people want to have him give talks and or give either tv interviews or sitdown ones. Chomsky is the leading foreign policy expert in the world. He is in the top ten of the most quoted humans in history--in history major numb nuts. Chomsky always has standing room only talks, even in conservative parts of the country and rarely gets many leftists, since there are so few--at least radicals. Even Matt Damon and Ben Afflick love the guy. Let's not forget the best stand up comedian in the world today, Hugo Chavez.

No more talking from no nothings. No wonder this country is so screwed up, we let people like this putz vote. Go away squiggy.

Oh, Gosh, if Ben Afleck and Matt Damon love him... Rolling Eyes Ad populum arguments are pretty pathetic. And if your boys there aren't "leftists"; what are they? Laughing

We'll take Damon. Afleck isn't a leftist, he is a complete f*cking tool.

Everyone is free to say whatever they want, but nobody is obligated to listen. Pretty basic distinction, and I would suggest you figure out the difference. Some people demand to be heard, but if nobody wants to listen, it isn't censorship.

I have read some of Chomsky's work, seen Manufacturing Consent as a documentary, even lived two houses down from his niece... I don't despise him, but I don't have high regard for him either. He's a sensationalist. He plucks facts often out of context and strings them to weave a convenient story. I could do the same weaving precisely the opposite kind of a story. His method is non-scientific. What he writes is perhaps very readable, motivating, there certainly are bits of truth in there to be concerned about, but overall his evidence is not conclusive, not that he would care, I suspect.
Howard Zinn or McPherson offer far more persuasive writing as far as I'm concerned.
Again, I don't have as much gripe with the facts he offers, but rather with how he goes about it. He's not a political scientist or international relations scholar, and though that should not matter, in his case his writing could certainly use more rigor.

Well, there are some lies within those Top 100 lies - e.g. communists did not kill 20,000 people in Czechoslovakia. I've no clue where they got that number, but nemmind. They are right in saying that statement about the life in Eastern Bloc compared to the conditions imposed by the US elsewhere being practically a paradise is a complete nonsense.

My gripe with Chomsky is not that much about what he writes - I can't care less, I don't find him to be a reputable writer - but about some stances he took. Especially during genocide in Cambodia, he refused to acknowledge witness accounts of fleeing refugees that offered firsthand accounts of what Pol Pot regime is up to, and defended the Khmer Rouge and their ideals of an utopian agrarian society, and dismissed all else as western propaganda. Whoever puts ideology before people is not a good guy in my book.
Source - Samantha Power's Problem from Hell, America and the Age of Genocide .... loosely, going from memory (read it two days ago though)

I don't know which I despise more; being an apologist for Pol Pot or his obvious hatred of Jews. I can't even credit him with putting ideology before people; his tendency to simply blame America first, no matter the facts or how ridiculous the position, leads me to believe that that is his true stock in trade. I think you hit the nail on the head with sensationalist... sensationally anti-American, to sell books.

Ps. I think he took the Czech number from the Philadelphia Enquirer, (Nov 3, 1999). It is listed under "Minor Atrocities of the Twentieth Century" on this handy reference page. I would agree the Author of the 100 list is more than happy to exaggerate his findings as well, but his point still comes across loud and crystal clear, simply by compiling the appropriate quotes to demonstrate what a nut (to be very generous) Chomsky is.

Chomsky is NOT a Pol Pot apologist (NOTICE THE LACK OF EVIDENCE). This is just another example of the sort of cowardly, mudslinging tactics employed by pussies like OCCOM BILL, apparently in an attempt to make themselves look smart. Try again!
