I love magnolias! On my way to school I pass a huge one and I emjoy the pink flowers every day.

Right stradee- there is no bad weather, just the wrong choice of clothing. I hope you can make it to Italy.

Fun in school. Reading Jack and the Beanstalk and doing experiments with beans. Today the kids found out that the roots always grow downwards.
How do the roots know where is up or down?
The race is on- which bean will grow faster?

It is really fun to watch the young " scientists".

ul, there were three events i knew were going to happen during my life.

1 Marriage and children
2 My own horse
3 Visiting Italy

Very Happy

Answer to the question:

Plants are affected by gravity, so they do know which way is up and which way is down. Plants also know that water is found down in the ground and sunlight is found up in the sky. All plants need water and sunlight. The roots of a plant will always grow down to find water and the stem will always grow up to find sunlight so the plant can produce food through photosynthesis.

Now there's a word for the kids. Smile

Beautiful spring weather today, and before the homeowners association board {that does not know whats up or down} raises the water rates, and the plants begin traveling to the river for water...

a perfect day for sprucing the yards and sending good vacation thoughts to the universe.

Thanks stradee.
I answered this question with similar words. I was just glad that the kids came up with the question.

Today is World Water Day.

'Coping with Water Scarcity' is the theme for World Water Day 2007, which is celebrated each year on 22 March. This year's theme highlights the increasing significance of water scarcity worldwide and the need for increased integration and cooperation to ensure sustainable, efficient and equitable management of scarce water resources, both at international and local levels.

Equity and rights, cultural and ethical issues are essential to be addressed when dealing with limited water resources. Imbalances between availability and demand, the degradation of groundwater and surface water quality, intersectoral competition, interregional and international disputes, all center around the question of how to cope with scarce water resources.

ul, thanks for the excellent link.

I understand how crucial it is that we all preserve water. In the instance i related, funds dispersed wisely could have eliminated the increase. That will be the issue when dealing with rebuilding antiquated water systems nationally and internationally. Of course mother nature will have the final say, but we are obligated to ensure that every person on the planet has access to clean water at affordable prices.

Privitzation = profit

I so agree with you, Stradee......

Water is the stuff of life for us all.

It should always be free.

(((I certainly hope that I did not demean Merry Andrew - whom I admire most of all the men folk here on this thread - - - the definition of the word I used is from my "Old" Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary......

"ANGARY" = service to a lord - - - compulsory public service - - - ((and then the Persian definition)) = the right in international law of a belligrent to seize use, or destroy property of neutrals.

That's it.

I was thinking of Merry Andrew in the first two instances...... and in no way the Persian version Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Merry Andrew is the best man on this forum.

PS: Yes, I was tipsy.

And, please accept my apology.

This only happened to me once or six times before....... Shocked

And, I have always been described as a pleasant inebriate.....hopefully Very Happy Very Happy

ehBeth,
That may be a symptom of the area that you live in - sinking.... Slowly, of course, but, slowly going down.......It's an evolutionary thing. Eons in length. Stuff is starting to happen much faster because of the industrial unrestraints. Thank you Pres. Bush.....

Oh, PS: Not the cognac this time.....!!!!! Clean and sober.

While Reme Martin is a great cognac - I had a 1912 cognac while visiting a (then cousin) of my (then Viennese) wife in Vienna. He had a four liter bottle given to him in the early twentieth century by his friend, the vintner. It was high proof, but superbly mild. I shall never forget it.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Oh, he was great a cousin - he gave me two drinks - and this was during the early '80's !!!

Such a treat and such a great friend. He was a world class big game hunter guide for extremely wealthy men. Not at all the one who gave me these - - -

This is the best I have - for the past years -
It's almost gone - I have to do something quickly.

I am wondering if I had a cognac too many when I made this lesson plan or if should have one now to celebrate this lesson.

Lots of cold rain here. No problem though, I have to attend a seminar this weekend.

It's really spring now (after we had had a rainy week, even with some snow, until noon today):

tulips in the park ...

.... and even in the shadowy backyard garden of our house

March n' Spring at the wildclicker thread!! Very Happy Very Happy

Well, you've all given me a great idea for a noon meal. A prime grilled veggie burger, organic tatter chips, and a tall Kalua n' soy. Very Happy

Weathers great again today, lots of sprucing projects {paint, etc} so if i'm not feelin' trippy after lunch, plan dragging out garden equipment and enjoying the warm weather.

Walter, those are lovely photos!

ul, i'm not going to ask... Laughing

ehBeth, winter rain was so sparatic here, then heavy rainfall, snow, more rain - all very quickly. Could be the ground said "eek" there also, although Dans explanation makes sense too.

Sending good thoughts to Noddy that all went well! Smile
