Yes, it's in a book from earliest 19th century, telling (here) the story how the bishop of Münster tried to get back in his town after it was reigned for some time by some the town council.

http://www.muenster.de/stadt/kongress1648/img/5_05b.jpg

My ancestor was with bishop of Mainz' troops and named besides three others (officers, noblemen) who bravely went up the town wall but were killed.
He's called "Monsieur" because he was no soldier and of "pseudo nobility", a free farmer without any intermediary 'Liege lord'.

Plant a Flower Day, now that is nice.
Even too early here, gardening season starts mid May.
But there are always flowerpots...

stradee- the farmers I know here are all very unhappy with summer time. The cows do have their inner clocks.

Interesting, Walter.

Starry night here-alreday. This weekend is over.

Walter, Thank you so very much for the information... I find that all so interesting. This is what I could make out from the writing =
((here under fallen honor. The honest Northmen (an almost nobleman) and four other people under the head man promised bail (?) and 'Monsieur' Hintler, lost their attempt with their life. Since then there has been honor for them from that time in their home country))

That's the best I could do..... Very Happy

I really like the area in which you live - there is so very much ancient history there.

Ul starts a new thread and the Northeastern USA gets its first whiff of Spring! Coincidence? I doubt it. Temps were near 60 F today, some gentle rain last night, beautiful sunny day today. Thanks, Ul.

I think you have the mistaken notion that I'm still up, Walter. No, I just got up and am getting ready for a beautiful day. (If I didn't have to go to work in a few hours, it would be even more beautiful. Smile I suppose calling in sick on a Monday morning is not a good idea.)

If only it were that easy. None of you seem to have any idea how much time, effort, money and sacrifice have gone into restoring wetlands, flyways, and wildlife populations by true conservationists over the last 100 years. It seems to me you simply dismiss them and their efforts because their interest conflicts with your utopian vision. Silly, stupid, and counterproductive.

Merry Andrew,
Vom Eise befreit sind Strom und Bäche
Durch des Frühlings holden, belebenden Blick,
Im Tale grünet Hoffnungsglück;
( Goethe: FaustI)
I hope your spring has really sprung. Enjoy all days!

We have a wonderful day too and more to come in this week. I will have to take my camera with me- cherry trees, almonds and magnolias are all in full bloom. Everywhere people are sitting in the sun.

Walter, a pretty sight. My Easter tree is inside,

And we may top 80 by mid-week, but 3 inches down on rain and none forecast. Guess I will have to drag the hose around.

Aw, come on. This is Monday morning speed.

In a recent contest, The Washington Post asked readers to take a word beginning with E or F, change one letter and create a new word:

* Demoticon: A little symbol signifying bad news on an e-mail from the boss.

* Educrate: To teach in one of the "modules" set up "temporarily" in the parking lot of an over-crowded school.

* Elbrow: Extremely long underarm hair.

* Epigramp: A maxim that brands the speaker as an old codger, such as: "If God had wanted women to wear pants . . ."

* Excaliburp: Sword swallowers reflux.

* Farternity: An old boys' club.

* Fistipuffs: Very minor squabbling.

* Flabboyant: Proudly displaying one's girth.

* Fratulence: The smell of a college kid's abode after a night of binge drinking.

* Fuhrenheit: The temperature in hell.

No!

They were refused:

* Al Capone -- to buy life insurance (7 times)

* Cher -- entry one night to Studio 54

* Wright Bros. -- first request for airplane patent

* Albert Einstein -- participation in Manhattan Project

* Jonas Salk -- admission to National Academy of Sciences

That should work

NASA has a detailed set of written procedures for dealing with an astronaut who's gone crazy in space. According to the instructions, the astronaut's crewmates should bind his or her wrists and ankles with duct tape, tie him or her down with a bungee cord and inject him or her with tranquilizers if necessary.

Look a little harder

A man whose car was being searched by police after he was stopped for erratic driving in New Port Richey, Fla., asked the officers, "Did you find my weed?"

Dopey joke o' the day

Q: What do you call an elephant that doesn't matter?

A: Irrelephant.

Lilly Tomlin -- at the time at the height of her fame as a Laugh-In regular -- was refused admittance to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel's posh cocktail lounge (known to generations of Bostonians simply as The Ritz Bar) because she was wearing a pant-suit (probably a Dior original). The Ritz Bar did not serve ladies not wearing skirts nor gentlemen without neckties.

ehBeth -- I rose early this a.m. because I slept most of the day away yesterday. And I'm home today; decided I wasn't feeling up to going to work and called in 'sick.'

Danon,
you are right- Easter will be in April this year.
I think the rule is :
first Sunday after the first full moon in spring.
Easter decoration often starts during lent.
Painting those eggs takes a lot of time.

The flu ran its course, finally - course any day at home is a good one, and i'm looking forward to the rest of it and tomorrow, sprucing the yards, demuddying the Chevy, and spending quality time with the herd.

Some key players, from today's Washington Post:

Pelosi Reveals Who's Who On Global Warming Panel

Monday, March 12, 2007; A11

The best-kept secret on the Hill -- the full membership of the new committee on global warming -- is no longer secret. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has announced the 15 members of the committee, formally known as the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

Pelosi's decision to create the committee initially sparked a turf war. Many saw it as a way to diminish the influence of veteran lawmakers, such as Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Dingell (D-Mich.), who in the past guarded the interests of the big U.S. automakers from his state by opposing higher fuel-efficiency standards.

Pelosi said that the committee would be designed to raise the visibility of energy and climate-change issues and that it would not have legislative jurisdiction. "Global warming and energy independence are urgent issues that have profound implications for our nation's economic competitiveness, natural security, environmental quality and public health," Pelosi said in announcing the panel's members Friday. They are:

Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), who will chair the committee

Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.)

Jay Inslee (D-Wash.)

John B. Larson (D-Conn.)

Hilda L. Solis (D-Calif.)

Stephanie Herseth (D-S.D.)

Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.)

John Hall (D-N.Y.)

Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.)

F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wis.), the ranking minority member

John Shadegg (R-Ariz.)

Greg Walden (R-Ore.)

John Sullivan (R-Okla.)

Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)

Candice S. Miller (R-Mich.)
