Calcium supplements have been reported to prevent colon cancer.

How is this anti-neoplastic effect exerted physiologically?

Husker- I think that too much of ANY supplement is probably injurious.

Re: this thread: I was looking around for some study that correlates calcium intake/colon cancer, and the only sites that I could find were health food related URLs. Not terribly scientific. What I DID find was a study which links colon cancer with low levels of folate.

What I DO know is that calcium is very important in older people (especially postmenopausal women) for the prevention of osteoporosis. In fact, women who are at risk for osteo need to take calcium with a "booster", such as Fosamax, Calcimar, or Miacalcin.

You know, I take so many supplements. Sometimes I wonder whether I am doing more harm than good!
Confused

Calcium Supplements

Some calcium supplements are so constipating, it's truly difficult to see how these very supplements can prevent colon cancer.
