This film disturbed me a lot, I was young when I saw it. Many soldiers come home from a war and cannot cope with daily life. They are so used to killing, just like smoking, it is hard to stop.

By killing a murderer,
government is carrying out its duty under the social contract
that if a victim ( or his surviving friends or family ) does not avenge
himself, then government will do it FOR HIM, after identifying the offender.
That is to say that government stands in the shoes
of the victim, and carries out his rights of vengeance,
in exchange for the victim 's paying his taxes.

If government defaults upon this contractual responsibility,
then each private citizen who becomes aggrieved by predatory crime
( or crime upon his loved ones ) will feel honor-bound
to avenge the offense himself, as was the case before government was created by individuals;
i.e., we revert to family feuds again.

Hence: bad guy kills a woman.
Her son is outraged, finds and kills bad guy,
after inflicting the amount of pain that son deems appropriate to the occasion.

Being in love with guns is the same as heroin addiction. Difficult to get out of your system because using guns makes some morons feel good.
