Ingested Moldy Tangerine

Reply Mon 5 Mar, 2007 12:23 pm
I accidentally ate a section of tangerine that had green mold on it. I noticed a strange taste, quickly spit it out, and rinsed my mouth out. Is this mold likely to be toxic? I am concerned because I am 5 months pregnant.

You didn't notice it was rotten before eating it?

If you didn't actual ingest it, I think you'll be fine.

The outside of the tangerine looked perfect. Most of the tangerine was fine - there was only a section or two with noticeable mold. I was just popping section by section and didn't look down at the last one before putting it in my mouth. I wish I had.
Anyway, I'm trying not to get too upset about it. I feel okay now. I forced myself to throw up, just in case I did ingest any of it. I would think that if it had been a toxic mold and I had ingested it, I would feel ill by now.

Penicillin is a product of the green mold.
Most of toxic mold is airborne anyway. Are you planning on not breezing? Pushing yourself to vomit is more harmful. Good luck with a baby and remember, RELAX.
