There was a snafu of some sort years ago in my military unit's motto.

When the original motto, "Build and Fight", was created, it was published as:

Pugnate et conditere

I've also seen it as "condite et pugnate", which seems right in the order of the words if not the words themselves.

The unit was the 20th Engineer Battalion (Combat) and this was the unit's motto during Vietnam.

"Condite et Pugnate" would be correct.
