I'd see the orthopedist. Since it tends to be benign, one doesn't know one needs an oncologist - they are generally called to treat the non-benign tumor.

It is treated here by (hand) surgeons as well as orthopedists, depending a lot on your family doctor and whom you like more/know.

Thanks guys.

The Mrs has one on her finger. It has been painful lately and growing... both of which are pretty bad signs. That plus her family history makes us both a bit nervous.

Thanks RP.

We're hoping we are just being hypochondriacs. Our family doctor that looked at it said that most of the time they are benign and no treatment is needed... but if it is indeed getting bigger we figure it is about time to have a closer look.

Hand surgeons are a subgroup of orthopedic surgeons.

From this site -
Hand surgeons have received specialized additional training in the treatment of hand problems in addition to their board certified specialty training in orthopaedic surgery, plastic surgery, or general surgery. To become members of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, hand surgeons must have completed a full year of such additional training and must pass a rigorous certifying examination. From this site -

Didn't know that. It's different here - that's why I referred to our situation (hand surgeons = specialised surgeons, while othopedics are an own discipline).

I'm sorry to here that, jp, but I'm sure it's rather a more minor treatment.
