I don't know why I didn't like flickr to start with, likely either lack of charm re my Imac or some stuff about their failure to guard photos or some other damned thing.

But this thread is making me overcome my ennui.

Makes me think of the movie "Europtrip" (quality film, high art, classic cinema, of course) when they arrive in what's purported to be Bratislava in the back of a crazed German driver's truck. The place is all Soviet-era architecture, a scraggly dog with a human hand in his mouth, rubble, all that. They meet a local man (played by the dude who's made his nut the past decade or so playing murderous Russians -- in, for instance, The Saint and Snatch) says, "It is a good thing you came in summer. In winter it can be very depressing."

Love this one. Reminds me of a certain painter from Montana's work, too bad I don't remember his name. Just about doesn't matter since his work online seems to be all sort of commercial type sunny stuff.

Well, that gives me a chance to look him up again and see if the online images have morphed.

Past that I've always loved and have somewhat zoned in on roads/paths myself, a way into the space of the photo or painting, however varied the style.

Ah, Russell Chatham. Here's a link that shows a bookcover of a book with plates of his paintings, the one on the cover being a clue to why the photo reminded me of his work.
http://www.amazon.com/Russell-Chatham-One-Hundred-Paintings/dp/0944439241

There is more online now, but not the rich variety in the book.

Looks interesting. Maybe the contrast with the online work is the same that customer reviewer #1 was talking about between the book and the expo he visited..

Today's photo of the day is censored, because of A2K's no-nipples rule.

From the archives. by sandersnyc

It's funny - the blurry guy (boyfriend I assume) on the left is almost as intriguing as the girl. Well, almost. Razz Why do all punks slouch in the exact same way?

No pro or con take on the "censored" one. Liked the last two a lot, Hard to pick just one of them.
