Hi everybody,
There's an English grammar multiple-choice test. There are just 3 choices. I wonder whether b) or c) is correct. And the exact grammatical reason for choosing either one is very important for me.
A: Have you called Betty yet?
B: No, ............... first thing when we get home.
a) I do it
b) I'll be doing it
c) I'll do it
Welcome to A2K, khorrami. There is nothing wrong grammatically with the "b" choice, it just sounds awkward.
"c" is your best choice because it communicates effectively.
Have you called Betty yet?
No, I will do it first thing when we get home.
This choice contains the proper parts of an English sentence such as the subject and verb and also expands the meaning by using what we refer to as modifiers.
Think of an English sentence as a formula.
Example: Subject + Verb = sentence.
Subject is I; verb is "will do".
I hope this helps you to understand.

As Letty says, C is the best answer in the limited circumstances given. It represents the normal neutral reply. B is also possible but it is a more emphatic reply that could come, say, when someone is bugging someone else about getting 'it' done.
