Most past Presidents have been religious wiki list . I don't think it's reasonable to expect a President to be non-religious.

It isn't reasonable, agreed. As we are seeing with Mitt it may matter what religion though. Then again Kennedy was thought not to be a viable candidate by being catholic.

I fully realize in the States the majority of voters are still okay with traditionally accepted religions. Myself I think it would be refreshing to have a more realistically minded person for once in that office.

Imagine the christian voters facing a situation where all of the candidates were atheist.
