I thought there was already a thread on these gems....... maybe there is and I couldn't find it. Usually I think of restaurant menus, and electronics manuals when I think of funny translations. But I have for you a book review at ebay which is amusing.....

On the news they mentioned that Beijing was in a hurry to correct their English language signs. Americans have been pointing out the wording is "non-idiomatic". This happens when translators in a foreign country decide to translate their own country's expressions word for word. The result may make sense to them but to tourists the expressions are confusing.
Beijing will host the 2008 Summer Olympics and is trying to correct errors such as these:
Signs on stairways where Americans would expect to see "Watch Your Step" are currently posted as "Do Not Fall Down The Stairs".
