Hi I was considering having the above procedure after 2 friends of mine lost a huge amount of weight, one lost over 60kg, and other still loosing after 34kg.
They have each discussed reasons why, and pros and cons on procedure, and causes to their high body weight prior to this, and i am pretty much sitting in same spot they were. I've come to a halt in trying to loose weight, and finding it so very hard. in recent yrs became harder with couple of medical illnesses. and i want to get my life back, and enjoy it again as before. I have allowed myself to feel so insecure and unattractive, therefore bringing this into my 3yr relationship and withdraw myself sexually.
I have had feedback on it with nothing but life changing results with no regret. Are their any one elses experiences that have not turned out for the better?

I do not know too much about these.

My aunt had one done about 10 years ago.

She is now about 80 lbs shy from where she started from, essentially stretching her belly right back to where it was before the surgery.

I dont think she really understood that possibility.

She was over 300 lbs when she got it done the first time.

What she got was the gastric Y .
She lost all the weight and she claimed it was simple and no discomfort.

Her skin was an issue for her though.
Lots of rashes, dry patches and some infections. Apparently the loose skin rubbed against her body all the time, no matter what she did. Powder, swimming clothes..etc. Nothing helped.

She had to have some removed, but she could not afford it all and her insurance company would not help . It was considered cosmetic no matter that it was making her sick.

But that was the only issue. Not a small one either.. but the only one.

To date she has not had any issues with her stomach, intestines, or the stitching. All of that seems to be perfect.

Dont know if that helps. Wink

many years ago I knew a woman who had "stomache stapling" her major concern was she still needed to controll her food intake, and the types of food she ate.

Essentially you can stretch your stomach back to the size it was before the operation and still over eat (fat sugar etc) for the lifestyle you lead.

A friend of a friend had bariatric surgery. She told me her friend was horrified to find out that many people who have gastric staples and band become alcoholics. They find a new addiction to replace the one that is difficult.

A Physical Therapist told me that he's dealt with several post-bariatric surgery patients and has never known one who was able to get rid of the flaps and folds of newly unnecessary skin without surgery.

I think a great deal depends on the amount of baggage you cart into the OR with you.
