What astonished, or took you quite by surprise, today?

two surprises today :
1) i switched internet providers last week . could never reach 'tech help' - "you are number 16 , please hold" .
so switched to a small local company . run into some trounle trying to connect . phoned local tech help . hard hardly dialeed the last number : "how may i help you ? ".
he questioned me on the lenght of the phonecord from the phone outlet to the modem .
"oh , about 25 feet " , i said , rather puzzled .
"you better replace the phonecord with an ethernet cable" , he suggested .
purchased ethernet cable , hooked up , result : perfect connection !
i better phone and thank him .
2) before going home, mrs h and i dropped into kingston's oldest deli , COOK'S , serving kingston for 150 years .
found the finest german marzipan (niederegger from luebeck) and 'mozartkugeln' from vienna .
mrs h thought that the goodies were somewhat expensive .
i managed to convince her that airfare alone would be more than the "goodies" purchased here Very Happy .
what a smart fellow i am !
TWO surprises on one day - and that at my age Very Happy .

Astonishingly terrible experience, k?

Actually, it was quite fun, once I got going. Especially with the 4th graders. The 1st graders were hard to .......contain.

Some men are followed home by puppies. Other men have special magnetic shopping carts set for "upmarket gourmet".

I was doing a bit of research on Google for one of the books I'm editing. I decided to enter my name; I hadn't done this in several years. The last time I did it, my name came up a few times. This time--12 pages! I was stunned.

I haven't done anything googleworthy since the last time I looked. But two of the books I wrote were remaindered so they're listed in connection with a lot of bookstores. Still, 12 pages was a shock.

Neat, Roberta!

On the matter of amazement:

I just finished a New Yorker article about the bible publshing business. I had no idea how bible publshing had taken off in the US... no idea.

Wow!, osso. Making a trendy Bible is a shocker.

I was stunned today when I found out that my favorite beach side restaurant was burned to the ground by an arsonist. It was the only one right on the beach where one could sit on the deck and have a drink and dinner as the moon came up over the ocean.

Now all the employees are jobless right at Christmas time.

I STILL haven't gotten my 12-18 New Yorker! That isn't shocking per se -- it's happened before -- but I'm not happy about it. (Sometimes I suspect my mailman wants to finish a particularly good article before passing it on...)

That's sad, Letty. :-(

If New Mexico is like the flatlands of Montana and Colorado where the Postal Service is inspired by the memories of the Pony Express riders who brought the mail through.

Yes, aren't I just brilliant, Roberta & Noddy?

One ripe cherry tomato already! Very Happy

This morning I picked it. It seemed ready for that.

I'm now deciding on the most suitable & delectable way to devour it!

I will keep you posted on my verdict!

Watch this space!
