Hello!
I'm tremendously interested in picking up the basics of Hindi; I'm much too busy (and broke) to take private lessons what with my all-consuming master's studies, and thought one of you might be able to recommendation some basic audio program just to get started.
I've checked out a variety of these online - Rosetta, Pimsleur, Colloquial Hindi and so on, but each of them seem to have tremendous flaws (e.g., archaic, sanskritized approach, and so on).
Any input would be much appreciated!
Finally, if it's not too much to ask, I wondered if anyone could help me translate this poem:
Teri Ankhon Se Hi Khulte Hain Saveron Ke Ufaq
Teri Aankhon Se Hi Band Hoti Hai Ye Seep Ki Raat
Teri Aankhen Hain Ya Sajde Main Hai Masoom Namazi
Palken Khulti Hain to Youn Goonj Ke Uthati Hai Nazar
Jaise Mandir Se Jaras Ki Chale Namnaak Hawaa
Aur Jhukti Hain To Bas Jaise Azaan Khatm Huee Ho
Teri Ankhen, Teri Thahri Huee Gamgeen See Ankhen

Hindi is my mother tongue. I can help you in practising conversational Hindi if you like.
As for the poem, it has more Urdu than Hindi. Sorry, I can't help with that.
Through your eyes, opens the morning sky
Through your eyes, closes the sea shell (?) night
the rest is kinda hard for me. I can alteast give the meanings.
Sajda=when we touch our forehead to ground while praying, Namazi= one whos reading naamaz, Takhleeq = birth, produce, make ( i guess), Sacchi = true, Hayaat = alive ( i guess), ankhon = eyes, teri = yours, nazar = vision, jhukti = bow down, jaise = like, mandir = temple, hawa = wind.
Sorry........that's all I could do.
