4 -year-old Accused of Improperly Touching Teacher

BELLMEAD- A four-year-old hugged his teachers aide and was put into in-school suspension, according to the father. But La Vega school administrators have a different story.

Damarcus Blackwell's four-year-old son was lining-up to get on the bus after school last month, when he was accused of rubbing his face in the chest of a female employee.

The prinicipal of La Vega Primary School sent a letter to the Blackwells that said the pre-kindergartener demonstrated "inappropriate physical behavior interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment."

Blackwell says it's ridiculous that the aide would misread a hug from a four-year-old. Blackwell wrote to administrators demanding that the whole incident be expunged from his son's academic file because his son is too young to know what it means to act sexually.

David Davis, the executive director of the Advocacy Center in Waco tends to agree with Blackwell. He says assuming the boy has not had sexual encounters, or been inappropriately exposed to pornography, most four-year-olds are sexually innocent.

Blackwell got a response from the La Vega administration. The sexual references on the discipline referral were removed. But the thing that makes Blackwell most upset is they told him "your request for an apology by the aide and removal of all paperwork regarding this incident is denied." Now the young student's file will refer to the incident as "inappropriate physical contact." And Blackwell says he will continue to fight the district.

La Vega I.S.D. administrators told News Channel 25 they couldn't comment on this case because of student privacy issues.

Had the aide not reported the supposed innapropriate conduct I can see a case being developed by an interfering parent who may have witnessed the exchange.

Regardless of that Its more innapropriate for anyone to sexualise the behavior of a 4 year old.

Whats the bet the family gets investigated and ostracised by rumour for innapropriate parenting or something.

The worlds gone mad.

I wonder how its affecting the kid?

I dunno, I can't say for sure unless I had seen this hug. Who knows it anyone else would have view this as inappropriate.

I've had little kids give me hugs where they snuggle down into you, like burrowing in to really get enveloped. That's what a hug is all about. In grownups I think is generally produces a protective response of holding them even more. It's a win/win encounter.

Playing devils advocate here...some people are big and plushy, they are the best people to get hugs from, because there's so much to hug and be hugged by. A 4 year old, male or female, is so small compared to an adult, a hug represents not just affection and attention, but safety as well.

I'd like to hear of aides complete description of this.

Four year olds CAN have sexualised behaviour, and it can be quite extreme, if there have been cerrtain sorts of problems in their lives.

However

a. The behaviour described can be perfectly normal for them.

b. If it WAS beyond the norm, the response is to set a calm limit.

Exactly! Even if the behavior was inappropriate, the child should not have such an accusation thrown at him. To me, the unbelievably obtuse teacher's aide should have been fired on the spot for terminal ineptitude.

A teacher who cringes from a child, and gets uncomfortable with a hug from a child should not be a teacher.

Kids are waist high. When standing, guess where they are going to hug you? On y our butt. That isnt sexual. That is where they can reach.

When you bend down, they are still not quite up to your shoulder, so guess where they are going to nuzzle to enjoy that hug? Your chest.
Again, not to be sexual, THAT IS WHERE THEY CAN REACH.

When a child cries, has been really embarassed, hurt, scared, etc... they will try to bury thier face in you while you hug them.
Again- depending on how you as the adult are positioned... this will either be in your bum, or your chest.

They are little people with a small reach.
Not sexual predators taking advantage of you.

I think this woman felt sexual during this encounter and is embarassed about her feelings. Not the other way around.
