So, just to get this straight, are McG and LSM suggesting that things in Iraq have been going well, that the civil war had been anticipated and a plan is in place to combat it, and that a successful democracy has been established there....and that anything less than Bush's original "war plan" (if we can call it that) constitutes "cut and run"?

I can only speak for myself, & no, i do not think it's going well, nor do I believe that anyone has said of late that it is.
So far mostly, if not just, the left have said that there's a civil war, which, BTW, a cicvil war is between different people in the same state/country, everybody knows that the insurgents/terrorists are the ones causing most of the trouble in Iraq.

The insurgents and terrorists are Iraqis too, madam.
Some, not all, & the money is for sure coming from Iran & Syria to support these insurgents.
I just heard John Kasich, a former Republican Rep call the war a "civil war" & he used Bosnia & Lebanon as examples. I disagree, Iraq is not the same as Bosnia nor Lebanon, well, maybe Lebanon since Iran does support Hezbollah.

You sure sound like a sourpuss lately, McWhitey. Should i remind you of your remark in another thread about the spirit of the season? Or did you just turn Buddhist again, and now choose to ignore your own horsie poop?

*sniff-sniff*

The only horse-shyte around here is being shoveled by you Setanta. As always.

Talk about slow on the uptake--allow me to remind you both that you can't do anything to piss me off, and allow me to remind you of the pot/kettle conundrum.

Who? Moi? I'm not trying to pi$$ you off, just answering in kind & I'm certinly not pi$$ed off.

You hittin' the sauce again? I responded to McG--which is why i quoted him in my response.

Try to keep up, and pay attention, 'K?

Ah, then who are the both that you were speaking of? Is McG two people? Dang, let me undestand this now, I believe that you have said or intimated that I'm several different people, now McG is two people? Okaaaay, now about that sauce....

I think this nicely sums up the US strategy in Iraq.

It's all I can do, others have power to do more.

I don't take strong drink.

"Both" refers to my reminding McG that he can't piss me off, and reminding him of the pot/kettle conundrum.

These sorts of things don't sink in well with you, language-wise, do they?

No sliding at all, i was reminding McG of two previous remarks i had made to him--and so i used "both." It's a simple enough passage in English. Why don't you go back, and keep re-reading it until understanding dawns on you.

Chuck Robb, a former Democrat Senator from Va said much the same thing that Panetta said, he too was on that Iraq Report.
This is a sticky wickett that won't be an easy feat to do, we stay in Iraq or we leave, either way this president will be called a "war mongerer" or as bad, "John Murtha". I believe he should listen to his generals in the field. Not armchair generals watching the news or sittin behind a keyboard. Whatever it is he does, I hope & pray for the best for our military.

consider that he'll be called a war mongerer for the simple reason that he is. Nothing more or less.

It's a new American English term that, used in present context, is synonomous with patriot.

tony blair looks more and more like a man who just can't wait for his political career to end, so he doesn't have to pretend to enjoy being in the same room with GW

I don't envy him his position. I will give him credit for acting as a loyal party member--i think he wants to leave Labour in a good political position when he leaves, which has required him to admit mistakes about Iraq, at the same time as he is obliged to attempt to keep good relations with Washington. The man has a hard row to hoe.

It's unfortunate that Blair's support for Bush at the conference today gives Bush the last thread to hang onto to "stay the course."

They lied their way into Iraq. Now they are trying to lie their way out

Bush and Blair will blame anyone but themselves for the consequences of their disastrous war - even its victims http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1957695,00.html
