The Atlantic has published a list of the 100 most influential members in American history.
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200612/influentials
Do you agree with this list?
Would you add anyone else?
Would you change the order of the list?
Would you remove anyone from the list? Why?
Yeah I posted something earlier in regard to this - thought it seemed odd that the last so many presidents were listed, but not JFK. The reasoning some of those deciding didn't was because he was in office such a short time, while others voting thought simply his presence and how he died - the impact to Americans when he died should have qualified him.
Then there were others that made it - like Babe Ruth (who although a great ball player) what sort of impact did he make? And many others that just seemed odd (Walmart head and some others) to have that much of an impact - more so than a president?
I'm sorry, O'Bill . . . you came in 103 on my list, so i had to drop you. Maybe if i'd eaten in your restaurant . . .
Such fun! Josph Smith and Brigham Young?
I was wondering re H. Melville; he just made the cut...
Ayn Rand was more influential than the authors mentioned. Should lose any baseball player to make room for Alice Paul (huge impact on Women's rights). Leonard Kleinrock (essentially conceived of the internet) and/or Larry G. Roberts (who was first to make it work). William Le Baron Jenney (invented the skyscraper).

, i thought that was al gore
This is a strange and strained list. Near the bottom you can hear them in the editorial room saying "We got to find six more to make a hundred."
Joe(I'll be back. No, I'm not adding Arnold)Nation
I was somewhat thrown by the word 'members' in the title...
I'll post back when I've looked at the list. I used to read Atlantic and liked it at the time. Too lil'income, too many subscriptions that weren't deductible, and I cut it.
Well, I've a few immediate grumpies. Walt Disney? Sam Walton? Goldwyn? Foster?
And a plus, glad they included Olmsted.
Here's a guy at the beginning of the movie business -

My family was in the movie business early on. Someone like Chaplin or Keaton would get my vote before Walt.
More mumbles..
There are the photographers...
There's Life Magazine and whoever was behind that.
Harper's is one very old magazine...
Whosit, who did all the bungalow plans...
