Several months ago, there was a nation-wide drive to inculcate into people's mind the sense of honour and shame in the form of 8 sets of antithetical statements. And some translations were produced, among which were:
Honour to those who love our motherland,
and [shame to] those who do harm to her; Â…
Honor to those who love the motherland,
and [shame on] those who harm the motherlandÂ…
My question is: which phrase is more acceptable: "shame to" or "shame on"?
Neither translation is wrong, in my opinion. The first is a little more formal, the second one is more conversational.
