I sometimes have trouble pronouncing L's and V's in words such as Bill, Chill, Yale, Bail, Vince, and Vine. What is this impediment called?

I've heard it described as a "misarticulation"...sounds a bit better than impediment anyway. Its common, and can be "fixed" with practice, if you are so inclined.

I've always had trouble with L's myself, especially when preceded by an R...as in Girl, or Curl. And then again, R's alone can be a problem...the word Terrorist comes out as Terist. I can pronounce the word correctly, {think George Bush saying Ter-or-ists} but I can feel distinct pressures on my tounge in doing so, not so much painful but uncomfortable.

This stems from a lifetime of skipping superfluous syllables, as most of us inflicted with a southern accent are apt to do. I can cover it up if needed but that is a rare occasion.

Case in point...my mothers name is Beverly, which is also difficult for me to enunciate correctly....Barly {bear le} is how I say it, but I add what is called a dipthong between the ar le sounds, and most never know I'm not saying the V at all.
