Bats amaze me because there are more than 1000 species . . . they represent about 20% of all mammalian species . . . and they're old--the last i read on the subject there were fossil remains of a bat, or "bat-like" mammal dating back well over 50,000,000 years . . . give or take a biblical flood or two . . .

@Setanta,
The Ozard Big Eared Bat

There's even wallpaper! I don't know if I want to be seeing that everyday -- it reminds me of the batty anti-evolution posters on this forum.

@Lightwizard,
we used to band those P. towansendia (longeared bat) suckers when I was doing honors work in college. Wed go way down into Mammoth Cave.

BTW, Im certain that bats were created by our Lord. There are NO "missing bat link" fossils and thats good enough for me you bunch of heathens. God saw all these bugs flying around the street lights and he said
"I THINK IM GONNA MAKE ME SOME BATS ta EAT THEM BUGS"
and he did. Thats why youve never found any early bat fossils earlier than middle Eocene. Lotta bugs in the Eocene, street lights was gettin all gunked up with bugs.

@farmerman,
Street lights? Had street lights evolved as soon as the Eocene? I have a feeling they weren't HED, Halogen or Sodium, nor even incandescent. So who was lighting the wick in each street light?

Besides, I know bats weren't created by your Lord -- they were created out of ash on a lathe and the first balls were handsewn. Yikes -- Adam must have yelped out loud after that operation.

@farmerman,
The bats in Austin is credited with minimizing their mosquito problems, and they can be seen soon after sunset by the river.

@cicerone imposter,
Maybe we should get some bats at A2K to deal with our Wingnut problems. Ooppps, I'm sorry - we're back to the actual mammal.

@Lightwizard,
And if you did you would hate it.

Your conversations would quickly degenerate into the Coffee House type of discourse about who has the most friends, the most important occupations and the most refined tastes in cuisine and would simply fade away in a cloud of ennui.

And you would have to pay for the upkeep of the bats after they had got rid of the Wingnuts or gas them all. And that's illegal here. They are a protected species.

@spendius,
I'm not so sure, spendi. Many have discussions about the best beer or wine (sometimes with different kinds of food), and they are usually interesting discussions.

@cicerone imposter,
Well, I guess pub flies are also a protected species. I'm not sure about baseball bats, however.

If it was used by Babe Ruth or Joe DiMaggio, it's probably worth a shekel or two.

Ted Williams may one day tell everyone they're a protected species.

@aperson,
If people evolved out of monkeys a few million years ago like scientists say they did than where are all the people? Reproducing at the rate we are wouldn't there be way more people by now? And another thing why don't humans keep evolving out of monkeys, if they did at one point why did they stop all of a sudden?

@AnswerMan,
Because when they arrived at cicerone imposter they thought perfection had been attained and that further evolution could only be a backward step.

You must forgive AnswerMan for his ignorance; it's obvious he has not studied evolution.

@cicerone imposter,
Well, duh -- maybe he's trying to find a way to de-evolve back into a monkey. He already thinks like one and Poop Spendius XXX is placating him. Gee, you post one picture and it attracts all the batty Creationuts.

@AnswerMan,
There are plenty of resources on this topic; all you need to do is do a search on Google on "Evolution."

LW is neither your teacher or gopher, and your question has been answered by most of us on this thread. Not our problem to answer "your" question when we've already done so in so many different ways.

Go play with the other children to satisfy your curiosity, or you can start with the 150 pages on this thread. The choice is your's.

@cicerone imposter,
Calm down!

Evolution teaches that first something had to be created in order to start evolving, so you guys are just as creationist as me!

The reason I choose not to believe evolution is because I believe the Bible, and the reason I believe the bible is because it has proven its self over over again through science and fulfilled prophecies. Here are some sites you can check out if you need examples:
