It's tough to catch me on my "not horse's ass" schedule - that's only on tuesdays, between 5 & 8pm.

But during that time you can even take me out in public.

Prove it.

And therein lies the problem.

Nobody knows for sure why global warming and/or climate change is occuring.

While it isn't really my place to criticize Europeans if they wish to change their behaviour, I will tell you that 1B Chinese are going to basically say "F--k you" if you ask them to do so. So your efforts are inconsequential.

No, most Americans believe that GW exists and that if is the result of human activity. The difference is that most Ameruicans are open and candid about their reluctance to destroy their economy in an uncertain attempt to fix it, and for the very uncertain benefits of doing so.

Despite their self-proclaimed virtue in signing up to the rather stupid deal in Kyoto, I note that these same European governments have so far failed to live up to the obligations they so solemnly accepted. So much for the wisdom and virtue Europeans so lavishly assign themselves.

Damn! How'd I almost miss this thread? I've been following cj around, just looking for an opportunity to bash him. And I nearly missed it. Double damn!

Why not go bash me in my "Venison Recipes" thread.

Can't do that, cj. I happen to be fond of good venison. It's the only legitimate reason I know of for killing so beautiful a creature as a deer. And you have to apologize to the soul of the deer afterwards and explain you didn't kill it out of anger or just for fun but because you need the deer's help in feeding yourself and your family.

That's the American way.

Getting back to the topic, I would not only accept lifestyle changes, I would welcome them and make them legally binding. The future of the entire planet is at stake!!!

I believe it is happening now. The public is slowly being conditioned to recognize there are hard tradeoffs to be made; that the repeated promises that solar and windpower are on the verge of replacing everything in use now have all been unfulfilled; that their irrational fear of nuclear power ignores far worse hazards; and that the desire of people throughout the world for continued economic development is unstoppable. This has limited the influence of the would-be authoritarian greens who wish to tell us all how to live, and led to a more rational public debade on the tradeoffs for economic development and environmental protection.

The solution, which will necessarily involve many distinct elements and which must necessarily make economic sense, will evolve gradually in response to market forces and public policy. Technological innovation will likely be an important part of all this.

Unfortunately this, like so many other elements of human society, involves many more diverse elements than the would-be authoritarian framers of a green new world (today) or a pure Aryan world or pure Communist world (last century) can typically conceive. We should never attempt to satisfy the fantasies of such dogmatists in whatever garp they clothe themselves.
