Midinette comes from midi + dînette ("small dinner"), and it was originally used to designate working girls who did not have time to go home at lunchtime (midi) and did not have enough money to eat in a restaurant, so they would just eat a quick bite (dînette) in parks and other public places. Some of them were salesgirls but others were typists etc.
They were quite poor but also fashion-concious, and sentimental little things and the word's meaning shifted to mean something not quite as harsh as bimbo as suggested by Edwingill, but "silly romantic working-class girl". It's quite outdated now.
