"Play" or "on" ?

Hi. I know that we say "That program is on TV tonight". But what about theatres or cinemas? Do we use that same grammatical structure in English for the two latter items? Or can we use the verb "play" in this situation? For example. is it correct in English to say: "That program is played in X cinema tonight"? THANKS.

It would be, "That program is playing at the cinema tonight.
