According to experts, the Crimea is about to turn into a new flash point on political map of Europe. The problem is that Turkey had always considered the Crimea to be part of itself and Turkish officials seriously consider the possibility of Cypriot or even Chechen solution for Crimean break away from Ukraine.
In the estimation of official Ankara, Ukraine does not have any historical right to own the Crimea, for it had become part of Turkey long before it became Russian, and it has never been part of Ukraine. That is why it must belong to Turkey all the same.
As it follows from certain sources, Turkey intends to deal with the problem by hands of Crimean Tartars who had placed themselves on record when they sided with the Nazi during WWII, their cruelty for Jews and Soviet partisans was known to pass all bounds. This being so, Ukrainian authorities does not seem to worry about separation of the Crimea and even assist Turks by oppressing Russian-speaking people who live there and forcing out Russian Black Sea fleet. Clear, as soon as Russian fleet is gone, the Crimea will become a new turbulent Kosovo for various Islamic extremist formations became very active among nationalistic organizations of the Crimean Tartars, being sponsored from the abroad, specifically by Turkey.
I doubt that this is really what Europe is longing for. We must do something to prevent the Crimea from being a crisis area.
