Hubby working on devising a way to keep the squirrels out of the tomatoes. They really kicked my ass last year. Don't think I can bare a repeat.

we've got plenty of black squirrels that just loved to feast on our tulips - just when they were about to open up .
i was told that BLOODMEAL is a good deterrent and also a good fertilizer .
so the last two years i've applied bloodmeal liberaly on all the plants and the squirels have - so far !!! - left them alone .
mind you , bloodmeal is rather expensive : about $10 for a two pound box Shocked
perhaps i can get it for free at the abbattoir .

Ah, trillium!

In the Magnolia Bed, the jack-in-the-pulpit showed up. I thought that it was a goner last year. And it has a second shoot coming up next to it!

My backyard is torn up because we're having a drainage system put around our house. It's a big mess!

Two different hucherella hybrids (lime ricky and ginger ale, I think) infront of a cut-leaf japanese maples which has leaves turning from the initial red to green.

And a lamium which is growing into the roses nicely, though the landlord doesn't like it (sigh).

weigelias are in full bloom right now .
we have several in the sideyard - both pink and red . planted four more in the frontyard last year and thought they had been frozen out by the late and heavy cold in march/april , but they have now recovered and will hopefully develop strong and deep roots this year .

Dys, I love those cone flowers! Are they the sunset/sunrise variety? I have some called harvest moon that are in the magnolia bed, they aren't blooming yet here. They do have buds, so I'll snap a picture when they pop open. Looks like you could use some mulch.

It's so nice to see the different gardens - dys and his desert flowers,
littlek with the lusch north eastern foliage, Walter and his German contribution, and hamburger with the Canadian peony. They look beautiful!

I cut off a few hydrangea this morning with some Jasmine from our
garden.
