satt, very contemplative. Did you design the garden? If you did, boy could I use your help.
PS what's the common variety name for the peony flower? Its gorgeous. We raise peonies and have been just overwhelmed by all the first year flowers we got from some new cultivars that we bought from a reputable peony dealer in mid US.
Weve gone for early to late season varieties AND WE like the fragrant varieties.

A professional gardener designed it.

The English common name is, I think, Chinese peony (Paeonia lactiflora which is a grass plant and different from Paeonia suffruticosa which is a tree).

Walter, you know more than my contractor... who says the various dump sites won't take sand. I'll look into this more on Monday - thanks a lot for the help.

Ahem, M didn't show up again today....

Contractor finished with tile today. Whew!
Tomorrow morning Dys and Diane and I plan to tour the botanic garden rather early in the morning, and probably have a bit of lunch somewhere. Then I'll go back home and face reassembling my worldly goods in the house, though not yet the worldly goods still in storage.

Will be interested to see how the Vitex trees look at the botanic garden tomorrow, as I'm considering putting two of them in my soon to be restructured front yard.... though am considering other trees.

So - I've got the pics developed of the Spring Garden- and it looks so different already but, at least you get the idea. I didnt get either of the fences but, I'll do that on the new roll.
When the boat is off the patio and not hanging over the edge of the garden I should be able to get better pics too.

Looks really very pretty - and 'yes', it's amazing!

But it's usually like this earlier in the year, isn't it?

At least, here we are three to four late this year, mostly.
It's a long wekend in Germany (Whit Monday is a public holiday), and on these days usually people looked around at parks and gardens ...

... as did I this afternoon, just walked around the block (= the park in front of our building)

The most flowers actually are (more or less in front of our house) still ... rhododendrons

And those look as if they were just planted .... they were: usually, the gardeners do it in early(iest) May ...

At this time of the year, the balconies at that building are really pretty with the lots of geranias ... now we can be glad, to see some single roses:

Yes, you're right, Walter...it's all very late this year.

The white wisteria tends to flower about three or four weeks later than the more common purple varieties, but ours is usually in full, glorious bloom by the first day in May. So it's about three weeks late this year, that's what comes of having no sunshine, and a couple of million gallons of rain.

The fifth wettest May in the UK since 1915 ish, so I've been reading.

The sun is out now though........

eastern lake ontario :
while we have had plenty of rain , it hasn't set back the flowering shrubs . our weigelia bushes are a riot of pink and red . white and pink spirea has started to break out in wonderful colous ; there are still a few tulips in the shade that are blooming .
in the fruit and veg garden the peas , beans (even the second seeding) are coming up nicely , herbs doing nicely , currant bushes and raspberries also doing fine .
we are glad for all the rain because during the summer-months (from june 1 to sept 30) , watering is restricted to alternate days from 5 to 10 a.m. only .
we have plenty of water in lake ontario but all that water has to be chemically treated before entering the water supply system , so restricting the watering hours should help reduce the amount of chemicals used .
went for a drive to watertown , NY , today and the farmers' fields are lush and green - sure a beautiful sight .

Winter has hit us with a vengence. We have had ripper frost for the last week or so, yet still our imported plants flower. I have some jonquills flowering and the bluebell of scotland refuse to stop. The raspberry has just about finished fruiting for autmn, but it refuses to rain (common for this time of year) and is putting many plants under stress.
I will post some pics later when it warms up a little.
