What type of hedge is that, Walter?

The most common around here: hornbeam and arbor vitae.

Nine inches across -- incredible ! ! What is that cultivar's name, Vivien; I could find space (!) for a beauty like that.

I invite you to look out our dining room window for a view outside:

what a lovely view

I'm sorry, I don't know the name Embarrassed I have long since lost the label! It didn't flower for about 3 years and only grew slowly - last year it had one flower and this year there's a second bud and the plant has grown a lot - I think it's decided to get a move on!

Been a long long time - went back a few pages at least to see what everyone is doing & what they have coming up - beautiful, wonderful, fabulous even.

I have been busy with my new garden - and I posted a couple threads - help is muchly appreciated.
ehbeth- you have scillia? help Smile
littlek - you have magnolias? I would love Magnolias, so very very nice.

I have taken pictures but, still using film camera so, it'll have to wait until the roll is done. I'll share when it is though. Looks like veryone did their Tulip posting already though - eh, maybe after a few weeks it will be refreshing to see again.

Last spring we had this one flower bed with nothing in it so the Lady Diane sowed an entire packet of Cosmos seeds. We now have 5 billion, 7 million, 764 thousand, 453 Cosmos coming up in every square inch of our garden.

My roses haven't even begun to bud. I cut them way back in early spring and they've grown considerably but it's all stems and leaves. No buds, no flowers. Also, what's the foamy stuff that forms on the stems? It's like soap.

The view while having a coffee on the terrece by the front door this morning. Lily- of- the- valley, tulips, and the chokecherry are all in bloom now, and their fragrance is simply delightful:

Quinn - I missed your post until now! There are two magnolias at the edge of our parking lot. They bloomed already and they usually bloom again later in the summer.

Are your pix developed yet?

Neko - gorgeous as usual!

On this, Memorial Day weekend in the US, I would invite you to visit npr.org for a story called "defiant gardens." It tells the stories, in words and pictures, of soldiers in WW1, of Jews in the ghettos, of Japanese/Americans in the internment camps, and of soldiers in Iraq all trying to coax life out of seeds. The link to the story is about half-way down the home page. There is also a way to get to the audio version that was aired this morning on npr. -rjb-
