Leonardo Da Vinci quote question

Well, Leonardo Da Vinci once said:

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Only, he didn't say it in English of course. So, my question is, what language did he speak? Would it be latin?
Or even better, does anyone know what text this quote is from? Oh, or best yet, does anyone have the quote in its original language? (no bablefish translations, please ^_^)

Anyways, any help would be wonderful. Thanks much.
