I have decided to train for a half marathon this fall. I am not a runner but have been pretty active in the last year with hiking. I'm up to running 3 miles without stopping but my knee is really bothering me. I've been doing the Jeff Galloway method of training by walking intermittently to allow for muscle recovery. This pain feels that it's in the joint behind and below my kneecap. I don't want to be a baby but I don't want to really injure myself either. I'd hate to not meet my goal of being ready for the half.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing??
I used to walk before I started riding, and at one time had something somewhat similar. Try taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin combo, and don't worry if it doesn't have MSM. That part of the formulation is useless. Actually, it all is if you don't have the right thing wrong with you.
Don't run a marathon with a gimpy knee, but if you must run, pick a better surface than pavement or gravel track. Also, be sure your shoes not only fit, but match your movement of foot, knee, and hip.
I know it would be useless to suggest a different sport, but . . . .
