I'll go so far as saying that I find the guy quite funny, and was beginning to quite like him, apart from the fact that he will persist in jibing me for no apparent reason.

There was a time when we queued up in a main post office in a town not far from Mr Walter....to buy a stamp...and they had run out of stamps. That is as far as I know the only recorded instance of German inefficiency.

Now, come on. That is a very short version of what happened
(As a civil servant, smorgs will completely understand this):
- those stamps you wanted, where in a drwawer at a counter where the person in charge of was on break. And the others didn't have a key for it ...
