Stateside, this is a weed.

http://www.torontoist.com/attachments/toronto_ann/dandelion.jpg

Perhaps not elsewhere, though. A former acquaintance once rented a house in France and did them the favor of removing all of their dandelions while they were there. Turned out the things were a family heirloom, a line of tasty stems (is that the bit that's eaten?) stretching back for decades, perhaps centuries.

The dandelion is one of the/the most nutritious garden vegetable. The leaves of the dandelions are the most commonly used part in cooking.

Hi Dorothy,

You obviously never joined the Girl Guides!

Dandelion & Burdock

Harvest leaves in early spring or they become bitter tasting, use them like lettuce with a salad

Root can be cooked and eaten add a little salt & butter

Grind root up and brew, leave to ferment in the right container with sugar and you have a decent root beer.

You can also use to make soup, jelly and possibly other concoctions.

Have you never eaten nettles either, or drank nettle juice?

It's just a style label mate. Shows you are sophisticated.

I gather that if you buy 3 litres you get one extra free. That's real class.

I wish they would do that with beer.

One freebie at Christmas is the most I ever get and you have to behave yourself for that.

Pubs look goosed to me. Goddard predicted it in Alphaville.

Pubs are dens of iniquity for trouble makers like you are Spendi, the government have a duty to the sensible people in ensuring they are vanquished from society!

New American suburbs don't have any proper bars/pubs/saloons any more. Like everything else catering to that nowhereland, drinking has been corporatized.

God help me if I ever find myself slowly dying (living is too strong a word) in one of those places.

Try and get that through to that idiotic sot patio, he must pee enough to float a battleship in a year, and sup enough to sink three

Get what through, Mathos? That spendi shouldn't relocate to the satellite developments of Sacramento, CA?

That's good. Because they grow like weeds. Smile

Patiodog, I am treading carefully here, what do you mean this time by asking 'Get what through?'

If Spendi were to emigrate to CA it would be a boon for England!

How would he make out for decent beer though, even I wouldn't wish him having to drink Coors, Buds or any other such excuse.

That would be a fate worse than death for him, don't you think?

Tread roughly -- I was only referring to this:

As to California -- well, spendi would find enough good locally-made ales there to keep him reasonably pleased and sozzled. Conversation and tolerance for old-age lechery might be harder to come by, though, and I expect bitterness soon would ensue.

Don't tell me. Eraserhead, L'Homme Qui Aimez Les Femmes, Amarcord and Renaldo and Clara. With Titanic floating in the wings. (or not).

There's so many though. You can't have a top five. What about that one Chubby Brown made about a society dominated by women. And Ecstasy Girls was quite good I thought.

Hey- me in Californayey. Forget it.

Titanic?

Noooooooooooooooooo!!!

I'm the only person in the world who hated that film, and I'm not allowed to say so in public.

Went to see it with a group of woman friends - and tutted all the way through. I didn't cry when I was supposed to, didn't laugh when I was supposed to...

Much prefer 'A Night to Remember'.
