I have learned a great deal from the ID thread I'll have you know DD. I am probably the only one who goes on there who has.

You didn't think the La Mettrie post was "inane" did you? They did or they are acting like they did.

What about smorgsy teaching me obedience to the spacing rules after commas and full stops? That's the sort of thing I came on Ask an Expert for.

What use are bloody fossils?

I'm awaiting instruction on semi-colons and colons?

I've missed all of that. I just drop into the thread once in a great while to be bemused. As someone near science (though no scientist), I know what I need to know, I know what I think, and I know that education is wasted on the young.

Had a bugger of a day!

Had to go to John Lewis as you can't get into Manchester due to the 'ring of steele'...

It's not a reference to Gordon's arsehole either!

How was yours, Ellpus?

Similar to yours, smorsg, without the John Lewis bit.

Interviewing little angelic car thieves during the lunch recess, and only managed time for a soft, warm apple for lunch.
Couldn't park for brand new porsches and large gas guzzlers when I got home, due to this bloody golf tournament.

Apart from that, Arsenal have just cruised to a win in the Champions League, I've had a few Leffes to accompany my hot and spicy pizza, so all's well with the world once again.

Hi Smorgs and gentlemen, ladies and visitors,

Wasn't that a well mannered greeting?

I didn't get in until the match had been playing for 15 minutes.

Glad to say Man U won 0-1 against Those Sardine chompers!

Cheers to you cockney's with the Arsenal win as well.

Well a quick look round and off to the land of nod I suppose. I just had a fox in the garden, but the dog went ballistic and it did a runner.

Clever fox.

I thought of doing a "foxed" joke there but I thought better of it.

Been setting a few rat traps today, first signs of them moving in from the woods this morning. They ate into a wiring loom underneath my car a couple of years back.

Aren't they intelligent little critters?

They certainly are. They were obviously hoping to cause you to be unable to drive and thus unable to part company with them.

Unless rats can digest wiring looms. The only other thing I can think of is that they were sharpening their teeth. Not on purpose of course. If they are sharpening their teeth they don't know that's what they are doing. They don't know they have teeth. They are bloody stupid. Do you think they might have had a sexual motive? Under Mathos's car. That's a new one.

They might have been sharpening their teeth so they could get hold of the female rats better and the wiring loom is a rat's viagra. That makes sense.

They don't know they have a sexual motive either. They just have.

They say evolution doesn't waste energy so they must have been up to something.

You appear to see every form of animal life apart from your own as 'stupid' Spendius.

Methinks, you do not watch animals closely enough!

I am of the opinion that Lions, Tigers, and the cat world in general are all right handed, are you aware of that?

To interrupt, why would spendius or anyone else have been aware of your opinion.

That said, it is my belief that rats are addicted to electrical shocks. That's why they submit themselves for scientific experimentation.

Wait a minute dozydawg-

The consensus on the bar resolved itself eventually into that they were making nest lining. Chewed up polystyrene being the rat equivalent of an electric blanket for snugness.

Vic reckoned that they couldn't have had a sexual motive because nobody would want to shag a rat. So he concluded they were females.

What time of year was it Mathos? How much did it cost and how do you plan preventing it from happening again bearing in mind what "intelligent critters" they are. And they were only trying to keep their babies warm.

I wasn't of either actually. I knew a cat that was left-handed and deaf in one ear and she was a real slinky cat. So I think you must mean "most".

Did she play tennis left-handed, or merely write with her left?

And on the pitch -- left foot dominant, or right?

January/February, didn't cost me anything except time, fortunately it was within my capabilities to rectify the damage.

Difficult to keep them out Spendi, very difficult, they make a bee line for the yard and out-buildings in general. Eat through the bottoms of doors or gain entry via a waste drain. I have actually fitted metal sheeting to the door bottoms. Saw the first signs of them since last April on Tuesday, they had been eating fallen apples in the orchard. I usually see off about three dozen between now and Christmas, that is not counting any I have poisoned, which will be in very high numbers judging by the poison they eat. Then, I go away in January, and boy do they take advantage. When I get back in April, there are play-holes in the hill, and they gnaw door bottoms etc, gaining access to the garage and out-buildings. I have tried the high pitched sirens to no avail. Mate of mine has advised me to put thick grease down on the inside of the building floor, he reckons they won't cross it? I will try it this winter and let you know. It will need some ply board down with the grease on that, simple sounding, but it may work.

Do you think a male rat would question the appearance of a female rat for sexual encounters?

Probably not from what I've seen in the pub.

Try cutting the apple tree down then they might not be tempted by free food. It's a bit much when you tempt them like that with apples turning into cider and then poison them with grisly chemicals. Rats can't be expected to resist free cider.

Live and let live man.
