I don't keep a track of these things but I would estimate that at least 10% of the top 300 soccer players here are on the injury list at any one time.

The question was how many top players in American football are on the injury list at any one time. That's the measure of how tough a game is when it's played with real passion.

Another question I would like to ask is how many of your players are of the build of a Ryan Giggs type? What's their average weight and height?

I was being a bit optimistic with my 10%.

Those NFL players that are of the Ryan Giggs build -- and there may not be very many of them -- would probably tend to get injured more often than not. Particularly if a 300 pound lineman landed on them.

That's what I thought, Tico.

It seems, although I must admit to not knowing a lot about the rules, that the only thing that happens is that the "line up (out?) chucks the ball back to their quarterback, who then has to lob it to someone before getting flattened by the opposing team who are charging towards him.

If he succeeds, his target man must catch the ball and run with it to the other end of the pitch.

And that's it!

No team inter passing, which means no chance of "dummying" a pass and fooling an interceptor, no real flow at all, in fact, unless the ball holder actually manages to avoid the rampaging bulls and cross the line.

More often than not, the poor sod who catches the quarterback's ball is immediately flattened and play stops for god knows how long.

This process seems to be get repeated ad infinitum unless possession of the ball is won by the opposing team and then the whole process gets repeated again, but in the opposite direction.

I'm sure there's much more to it than that, but that's how it comes across.

Like you say, it's a bit like an American trying to watch cricket, I suppose.

How many Americans are over 300 lbs Tico? Excluding the women, the children, the shagged out old hasbeens, the under 6ft 2ers, the easy riders, the middle class professionals, the drug abusers, etc etc. It can't be all that many.
