"The British Thread" should function as an compendium of "British views" comprehensible to "the others" rather than an impenetrable collection of mutual revelry in all things British from Alex Ferguson's chewing gum to ASBO's. After all, do we not have a duty of care to our former colonials and even less fortunate foreigners to "put them straight" ?

Sometime, fresco, I feel that there is a sense of a sort of literary eucharist about what this thread may achieve even though it may not be what it is trying to do. It may give those in exotic climes, and even some as yet unconceived, a frisson of intellectual pleasure and spiritual uplift by converting the stuff of everyday life into something with an artistic life of its own, as with the rumpled bed exhibit, and provide them with mental flights of fancy and a moral beacon in this cruel and Godforsaken world of ours.

A Lowry in short words.

I knew a lady once who liked men with bald heads. She claimed it provided a degree of variation to her enjoyment to play naughts and crosses on it with a felt-tipped pen.

How very tactful of you McT, I did look rather 'officy', the tights were a petty rebellion against the dress code: I was told not to wear them again... Hence the early finish, I was mad as hell about it, I liked them, thought they were unusual. Anyway, I'll save them for weekends - they're perfect for shopping in tesco's.

You should see the ones I'm planning to wear tomorrow!

Let's just say they sparkle...
