My mom fell 6 weeks ago and hurt her foot really bad. It was really swollen and almost black. Well, 6 weeks later, it's not black anymore, but still red. It's not as swollen but still swollen enough to aggravate her. She still can't wear her tennis shoes. She has to wear house shoes. Can anyone tell me if it was a sprain or fracture and how long it should take to get well?
Only a doctor would know for sure. A bad sprain can last for a long time. Best to have it checked by a medical professional.

I agree. Your mother should see a doctor, ASAP. A sprain might heal without medical aid, but if any bones are broken they may be healing out of alignment. If this is true, she could have trouble walking and standing for the rest of her life.
i prefer sprains to fractures
they heal faster

Not necessarily. Some sprains are worse than fractures. I once sprained an ankle so badly that the doctor said I would have been better off had I broken it. Since I could not run for 2 years, I think the doctor was right.
