Jack and Jim don't want to enter the spelling contest.

What is the verb? I was thinking 'don't want to enter', but wanted to make sure.

Thanks for your help.

Terminology for English Grammar has changed in the last 50 years, but I'd identify "don't want" as the verb phrase.

Of course, the "verb phrase" may be what used to be called "the complex predicate" in which case "don't want to enter the spelling contest" is the verb phrase.
