Generally, when we say "The movie by..", for example, "the movie by John is so exciting", does that mean John is an actor, or a director, or anything else? Thank you.
sorry, I left something out. Does that mean John is an actor, or a director of the movie, or anything else? Thanks.
the most credit is usually given to the director
Yeah, "by" usually indicates the director.
"In" usually indicates an actor.
So for example in the sentence, "That movie by John was great!", John is the director.
In the sentence, "That movie that John was in was great!", John is an actor.
yep, and while we're on the subject of prepositions and movies, "on" would indicate that a guest appearance was made.
That means either director or producer. Usually it refers to the director though.
Like, when I say the movie by Mel Gibson, I don't mean he acts in the movie, but he made the movie, hence the first sentence.
