@engineer,
Both sisters are known for being disciplined, but the constant praise and adulation that Serena has had to put up these last few months probably messed her up. She did say that she was not used to all of the cheering in NY, that it bothered her because it was so different than how she is usually treated.

@engineer,
Quote:
Vinci is a really nice doubles player

According to WIKI that is what she is known for, and she gave it up. I would not be shocked to hear that she is playing the best tennis of her life as she refocused, but still there is no indication that she has the skills to beat Serena if Serena shows up.

Are you shitting me? She lost, she did not play good enough and losing is what happens if you don't play good enough. That's justice baby!

Edit: I don't like these women at all, but there is no way in hell they are going to buy into the victim identity that you are selling.

@Kolyo,
Also saying Wow! I take it, from a quick look at the Guardian, as mostly stress related, but I think she's also had a bad ankle.

Vinci seems to have beaten a lot of sharp players at some point along her way (see wiki), and has a good net game, but still...

@hawkeye10,
She might not want anyone's pity, true, but showing sympathy for someone who fell short of a major goal is not calling anyone a victim.

@engineer,
Showing sympathy to someone who thinks they got what they deserved just pisses them off generally. There is no positive thing getting done.

@hawkeye10,
In general I feel the most sympathy for people who come frustratingly close to absolute perfection, which they will never get another shot at. That's what has happened here. All the same I think she's the best ever on the women's side, and I'll think that even if she never wins again. Graff's 22 was inflated by the prolonged absence of Seles late in Steffi's career. Serena's 21 is more legit.

@engineer,
I may be the sole human on this continent interested in an italian final, but that is after the fact, as I was very much for Serena, what a blow.

@ossobuco,
Interesting conjecture in this article about how Djokovic could deal with Federer's new ploy..

Wow. Fed had to fight off 3 break points just to win the first game.

@snood,
...and Djokovic won the next 7 points with ease...then broke Roger's next serve. Not looking promising for Roger. The announcers are saying the weather conditions and delay have made it harder for Roger to play than Djokovic.

Well one thing's for sure. Watching them play you can tell they're the best in the world. Huge gap in quality between these two and everyone else.
