Fiat voluntas Agnelli, as the proverb goes.
This here is Euro Gentrufication trash talk, init?
You better stop it....there's ladies...er I mean does...present.
Funny thing, traveling is.
Just got back from a vacation to Tidewater Virginia, where we visited the Yorktown battlefield. (The decisive battle assuring American independence from Britain in the late 1700s.) Seems the war was pretty much a draw at that point, and Gen. Washington's troops were exhausted. The French came to his aid in the nick of time, effectively disabling the ships of the British fleet (the preeminent naval power in the world at the time) and reinforcing the colonists' ground forces. In other words, had it not been for the timely and effective intervention of the French military, Washington's fledgling army most certainly would not have won. BernardR and the rest of us Americans might still be British subjects. (No offense to LordE and the rest, of course.) America will forever owe the French military a huge debt of gratitude.

The French have a vastly superior understanding of the Middle East, and if we had listened to them, we would not have gone into Iraq in such a fashion, and our respective countries would not have lost so many of our young.
You may be right, Lord Ellpus and if you are, I will apologize to one and all. NOW, WE WILL SEE HOW RIGHT YOU ARE ABOUT
'A VASTLY SUPERIOR UNDERSTANDING OF THE MIDDLE EAST"
When the French troops see to it that Hezbollah is disarmed and does not fire any more missles into Israel, I will apologize to you, profusely.
If that does not happen, I am afraid I will have to go back to my original stance.
BUT, LORD ELLPUS, YOU IGNORED THE QUOTE FROM YOUR FORMER LEADER, WINSTON CHURCHILL ABOUT THE DISASTEROUS AND COWARDLY STANCE TAKEN BY THE FRENCH ARMY.
Why?
I am very much afraid that Sentata may be suffering from the same kind of senility which has taken ahold of another of our A2K'ers who had a very bad heart attack causing stents to be inserted to keep him alive. but it may be that Setanta's senility is age related.
I wonder if Setanta knows how to read or has lost the facility due to some kind of dementia?
Here is the quote from Shirer that I posted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am very much afraid that both Hingehead and Old Europe are ignorant concerning the French role in Europe against the Nazis.
NOt only were they cowardly, they were stupid.
Of course, Hingehead and Old Europe are invited to show that the material below is false or misleading.
From Shirer---P. 726
quote-
"Prime Minister Churchill flew to Paris while German spearheads were sixty miles west of Sedan, rolling along the UNDEFENDED open country. Nothing very much stood between them and Paris and between them and the Channel, but Churchill did not know this.
"Where is the Strategic Reserve? He asked Gamelin. THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ALLIED ARMIES TURNED TO HIM AND WITH A SHAKE OF THE HEAD AND A SHRUG ANSWERED-- T H E R E I S N O N E!
Again- German spearheads were SIXTY MILES west of Sedan!!
If Setanta is able to do so, he should send his critique to the Publisher -Simon and Shuster.
And, of course, writers like John Keegan, in his book
"The Second World War" have it all wrong and should have consulted with Setanta before they wrote:
P. 64
"Albert Lebrun, the French President, noted after his visit to the front, a "SLACKENED RESOLVE, RELAXED DISCIPLINE"....Winston Chuchill, was struck by the "prevailing atmosphere of calm aloofness, by the seemingly poor quality of the work in hand, by the lack visible activity of any kind" on the French front. General Edouard Ruby, of the second army found that " every exercise was considered a vexation, all work as fatigue, After several months of stagnation, no one believed in the war anymore"
It's such a shame John Keegan got it all wrong. If he only had been in touch with Setanta, he would not have made such mistakes>

Ja, und ein Ratzeputz.

Mit Kase?
(Shudders)
The Ratzeputz seems more suited to the Kase, somehow....

If anyone took Possum seriously, that would be a very nasty comment.
Nasty Comment? Only if people were LYING when they posted news of the heart attack on this venue. Were they lying or is it true?
I still think a couple of aussies in a ute could have got the job done.
Can anyone hear a mosquito?

How is this proof of cowardice? Even if it were, how can you slag off all French past and present on that basis? Mental dwarf.
And given that how can you suddenly forgive them because they are sending 'enough' troops to Lebanon? Do you not question your moral compass?
Essentially you are saying the all French are cowards and always have been if they don't send enough troops to Lebanon and stop Hizbollah. But if they do they are great guys. Whatever your paying your analyst is is not enough.
Where's the fly spray?
Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.
He's shuffled off this mortal coil?

Well, it's up to you....but taking BernardR seriously is like magnifying the squeakings of a mouse, amplifying them, and calling it the voice of god.
I am not like the idiots who reference Prescott Bush, Bush's grandfather, and claim that President George W.Bush is a NAZI because Prescott Bush worked in the same firm as a contributor to the Nazi party.
That would be blaming the Grandson for the sins of the Grandfather, if indeed there was a sin.
Now, I can, and will, characterize past actions of countries and their soldiers if I have evidence that those soldiers were indeed cowardly.
I have quoted Shirer concerning the fact that the French could have stopped the Nazis when they invaded the Ruhr.
I have referenced Churchill who was astonished that the French did not have ANY reserves ready to stop the Nazis in World War !!. Something Churchill said was unbelievable. I have quoted the President of France who visited the French Army just before they retreated en masse before the Nazis. The French President noted that morale was poor and that the Army was NOT getting ready to defend France.
I think that shows a country whose soldiers were demoralized=, unwilling to fight and cowardly.
Now, are the French cowardly today?
They acted as if they were a few weeks ago, when after typical French bluster about how they would lead the contingent into Lebanon, they suddenly announced that they would be sending 400( four hundred troops). This, of course, is in line with the possibility that they are pompous cowards.
Suddenly, they changed direction. They announced yesterday that they would be sending 1,700 to Lebanon. People and Countries CAN CHANGE!
Again, if the French contingent succeeded in disarming Hezbollah and stopping rocket attacks on Isreael, the French Soldier should be portrayed as "The Person of the Year" on Time Magazine's cover.
I will wait to see whether the French soldiers in Lebanon are the new courageous types or whether they resemble the historical French soldier!!
