If an overweight teen excersises and tries to eat correctly, but still has difficulty curbing and losing weight, what kind of options does said teen have? Granted, this isn't merely about "getting of their butt and not eating junk food", which is the most hyped scenario, but about making an effort only to not have it pay off.

Depends, in some ways, on the age and gender of said teen.

For example -- 13-year-olds are still growing taller (usually). While that doesn't solve the entire weight problem it is something to consider. With 19-year-olds, further growth is rare. Teenaged boys can be eating machines, but usually that seems to be tied to sports. For girls, a lot of weight issues are tied to puberty.

Also, another thing -- how much weight is said hypothetical teen trying to lose? 10 lbs.? 50? 100? 200? It makes a difference in terms of strategy. While the overall strategy of eating right (and less) and exercising holds true, a person of any age with 100 or more lbs. to lose is going to have to be in it for the long haul, whereas a person looking to lose a small amount of weight may find that they plateau easily and don't see a lot of results.
