Burn up more calories during a day than are being consumed.

Walk more often.
Use stairs instead of lifts.
Use the bike instead of trains where possible.
Go swimming.
Drink water instead of soda or juice.
Go slow on chocolate, crisps, and fatty foods.
Don't deprive yourself of all pleasures, though.
Don't expect miracles, have patience!

diet and exercise
The first thing to do is to set up a regular regiment of exercise and diet. The child should be getting a good cardiovascular workout at least three to four times a week for at least 30 minutes, being careful not to overdo it in the first few weeks. It takes a good 12 weeks to get into basic cardio conditioning so patience is the key. As far as diet is concerned it is important to limit sugar intake, I usually recommend avoiding high sugar foods such as candies and sodas and to only have healthy snack choices such as fruit and vegetables available so that there is no temptation to eat more unhealthy foods. Hope this helps.

Step One - Get butt off of couch; go outside. Play basketball, tennis, walk, run, swim, hike, anything physical. 35-45 minutes per day, three days or more per week.

Step Two - Put down the food; limit your portions. Don't starve yourself but one serving is a lot less than you think. Stop putting candy, soda, chips and other junk processed foods in your mouth. Not only will they make you fat, they are bad for your overall health.

Step Three- Be patient. It takes a long time to lose weight. 1-2 lbs per week.

get outside and stay outside.

i heard a study on NPR about air conditioning being a major contributing factor to obesity in America-organism has no down time from eating. hot weather causes apetite to go way down, makes you sweat... we are build for that, but staying inside in cool rooms leads to a lot more snacking and eating than one would normally do. makes sense to me, though there may be pleasant ways to lose weight. well, more pleasant for others, imyself dislike AC and love heat. just throwing it out there.
