5 president of international organizations

My friend read this from an English article and we wonder if "president" should be "presidents".

there are 10 suspects and defendant approved of arrest.

And why "defendant" should not be "defendants"?

I have no context. So I can only guess it. Could you help me without context? Anyway. Please try it. Thank you very much.

I would feel hapy if they were pluralised.

There were 10 suspects and defedants approved FOR arrest.
