And you read an add that gives you a website to preview that photographers work.

This is where the add sent you -

( put aside that you KNOW me.. Laughing )

What would you think ?
Does this look professional?
Appealing?
How is the lay out?

Mind you , I will be taking more pictures of my friends kiddos in the next few days and adding some with color so it wont be completely black and white/ sepia etc..
there will be variation.

BUt..

what do you think?

( I have decided to sell myself ! ) Very Happy

I like the photos, but I notice there are no boys.

I think this would appeal to someone wanting a more artistic shot, as there aren't any color snaps.

maybe a couple parent/child photos?

I do have some parent child combos...

I will add those.

I am going to take some pictures Friday and Monday.
I have ONE boy picture up.. but I do need more.

I also need more action shots instead of profiles.
Being in color too would be good..

I am hoping to cure all of that the next few days so I can get my add out and get working.

Do you think the website looks good as an add?
Is its lay out ok?

thank you.

She was sitting on the couch watching a little 13 inch tv that we had on a table behind it.
I told her we were getting rid of it so she plopped down and watched almost 3 hours of tv before we gave it away.
I guess she wanted to get all she could before it was gone. HA!

You have some really beautiful photos, shewolf! Nice work!

A few of them look a little dark on my computer though. That might just be my computer.

I'm not at all familiar with how flikr works. Would you just have a business card with a link to your online portfolio or do you post pricing/contact information on there?

I recently posted a link to my site in the parent's pictures forum of craigslist to get some feedback from people who are not at all familiar with me. (I removed all pricing and contact information since it is not a "for sale" area of the list.)

I didn't get a lot of replies but the ones I did get were valuable.

It is really had to guess what people will like.

some of them are dark when they are shrunk like that.

The ones you are talking about are made for 9x11 frames.
For some strange reason, when they are normal size, they are not dark at all.
The second I put them on the site, they look like black blurrs..

Maybe those are not good ones to display?

I dont want someone thinking I will give them a black photo like that...

Or, i could just use an explaination .. ? But that might not look as 'professional'

I really think you have talent but I don't think it comes across so much on the site because so many of the images appear dark. I would try to lighten them up some and reposting.

Keep in mind that when selling portraits that you want people to see your best work because they aren't buying that picture, they are buying that idea. They are buying your style of photography.

Then again.... what do I know!? I'm still seeking input, myself because I'm not sure if I'm ready to go in that direction.

I've been seeking out some professional groups to approach for portfolio review. In fact, I've been thinking about asking other A2K artists where to go to seek feedback.

Hmmmmm..... I feel a post coming on........

My first thought was that "Love" didn't belong on the page - too low-contrast. But, maybe that's because I like high-contrast - maybe some people like lower contrast.

Love

was actually a very small picture.
His mom wanted me to try to make it a little bigger then a wallet size photo..

wich was a hoot. Because I forgot to copy the original and ended up screwing the whole thing up.
It was a good shot.

So is it all the black and white ones that look 'off' in color?

DO you think, mixed with some full color photos, that it might make them appear lighter?

I love your stuff...but I don't think that these are all your best work.

The bug face one...the face paint one...all of those are real life caught in the moment action shots that I think parents would love. That's what you do best...capture a life moment.

But that's just my 2 Cents

So, even with those not being ... perfect printing quality..
you think they should be up on a page as well?

I agree with you.. in the sense that, those moments are what I catch.
I dont do posed shots
I dont do a " say cheese" picture

I follow a child, until they forget Im there for a few seconds, then I start shooting like crazy...

The color photos really brighten it up a lot. I would still try to lighten up the black and white photos and repost them.

eBeth made a great suggestion to me about my site - that it would be so much better as a slide show than static images. I made the change and it made a world of difference.

I see that flickr has a slideshow option - I couldn't get yours to work on my computer though.....

Again, it could just be my dorky computer.

The photos themselves are stunning and lovely but when you're hiring yourself out people will also be looking for technical precision. I don't want to be a one-note reviewer but I really think you need to get the exposures corrected.

How about posting the link like this Photos ... click from within another opening page, so it goes straight to the slide show (with the thumbnails at the bottom).

Burrito and Wonder are the only 2 b/w pix that look 'right' on my computer. I'm trying to figure out what's happened to Buzzy Bee - there's so much dark at the upper edges that it merges into the flickr background and the composition looks off (to me) as a result.

re the slide show, most people are to impatient these days to watch the whole show. In fact i only looked at the first 3. show me what i want on the first page or I'm outta here. Better to give them the whole lot as a static page but also give a slide show option.

Maybe it makes a difference if i am actually looking for a photographer.

Okay, dadpad, now you HAVE to share.

What do you look for when shopping for a photographer?

How do you shop for them?

yeah!

spill it dadpad.. Smile

Maybe, I could move from flickr, to a pay site?

I will touch up those b&w and see if they come out lighter.

Buzzy bee was a lucky shot. Blurry from motion and one I cant seem to clear it up any better then that.
I can always drop it off the list though..

the composition of a few of those ARE off sadly enough.
They are great shots and expressions, but they were lucky accidents.
Ones that I caught while Bean was in motion, and I had to touch up just to get them clear.

I will be taking a few more shots over the next 3 days and I will keep the B&W in mind...

I have tried to grey scale some, but the effect on those are not QUITE what I was looking for..

I need to get a little farther from relying on the special effects to make the picture and work more on normal color shots..
so lets see what sunday - tuesday produces..
