Once a day, I was talking something with my friend. For some while, I didn't speak anything. She then told me:"Do not beat the bush." I was confused. What is the meaning?

I think the saying you're referring to is "Don't beat around the bush". It means, in conversation to come directly to the point you are trying to make.
